PostSubject: Hello all!   Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:56 pm

Hey there,

If you're just dropping in, you'll notice this is a new place for writers to hang out and talk about writerly things. This place came into being because I belonged to a writer's forum I loved, but the members became inactive and I wasn't getting the motivation I sought to keep me focused every day. While I have moderated and owned several groups and forums, this is a new platform for me, so I hope you'll give me a bit of grace during my learning curve.

For those of you who might not know me, my name is Cheryl Malandrinos, and I am the author of the Christian children's picture book, Little Shepherd. I am currently at work on a MG historical, and finalizing my query on a first chapter reader that a publisher expressed interest in.

I am a stay-at-home mom, and I work fulltime out of my home office as a virtual book tour coordinator for Pump Up Your Book.

It is my hope that you will enjoy your time here and tell your friends about us. It's important for fellow writers to support each other.

Wishing you the best in all you do,

Cheryl

Thanks for putting this forum together, Cheryl. I'm glad you decided to create a more active community. Who knows what'll happen, but trying something new is always better - and more productive - than simply complaining. So, cheers for you! It's not an easy endeavor I'm sure.

Looks like a good idea, Cheryl. Thanks.

I'm a former teacher, now enjoying retirement and my new career, writing for children and teens.

My latest novel is a young adult historical fiction, Caves, Cannons, and Crinolines. I have four other novels for tweens and teens published, along with an article in Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog. My first picture book will be out in 2011, and five other stories are under contract. Many of my children's articles have been published in children's magazines like Jack and Jill, Focus on the Family Clubhouse Jr., Ladybug, and others.

To relax I play the piano, read, and research my ancestors. Oh, and I blog. Sometimes I enjoy a good nap. Sleep

Bev, when do you have time to relax with so much going on?

Caves, Cannons, and Crinolines is a wonderful book. I hope you write more historicals; though I love your contemporary stuff too. I didn't know you had so many stories under contract. Congratulations! That's great.

It's wonderful to have you with us.

I don't think this site likes me. It took several tries to get here. Kept receiving a message that the website was busy. Then I typed a post and it repeated the message. Grrr. I do not give up easily. So will try again. :)

LOL. Actually I relax very little, but when I'm stressed out, playing the piano calms me down. The cat runs and hides. She doesn't appreciate good music. But it soothes me.

I do have another historical novel under contract, a middle grade about the Orphan Train riders, loosely based on my mother's life in the 1920s. It will be a couple of years before it's published. Wish it was sooner, but the publishing wheels turn slowly.

Good luck with your new story. It's realy a sweet one. Thanks for your kind words. I'm happy to be here.

Now to see if this will post. Fingers crossed.

Bev

That is so odd, Bev. I'm sorry it's giving you fits. I've only received that message once since I started it. Hmmm...I'll have to ask my chum who set it up how we might avoid that in the future.

I forgot about the Orphan Train novel. Is that with 4RV? One of my favorite episodes from Dr. Quinn is when the Orphan Train comes to town.

Glad you like Amelia's Mission. I wish I had time to work on it lately. Once I catch up with book tours I might try to sneak in a chapter before getting into that ghostwriting project.

The Orphan Train story is with Twilight Times Books. 4 RV is working on Tumbleweed Christmas, an early reader that started out as a picture book. They also have my young adult novel Life on Hold. It's in edits currently.

Dr. Quinn was a great show. Wish it was still on, but I guess people don't watch simple, sweet shows anymore.

Don't worry about the site. It seems okay now. :)

Do you get the Gospel Music Channel? DQ is on there in the afternoons. I think 5PM Eastern.

So many books going on for you. That's great.

Hmm...it might be a neat idea to talk about your different experiences with publishers. I recognize 4RV Publishing from the Muse Conference and it's interesting that you ladies went with these smaller, e-publishers (please correct me if I'm wrong) compared to NY publishers.

Just a thought tickler - it might be something other viewers may be interested in hearing about.

I agree. It would even give me an excuse to start a blog to go with the forum. LOL!

Cheryl, I don't know if we get the Gospel Music channel or not. My TV viewing is limited. Usually my nose is in a book or on the computer. Will check.

I'd be happy to talk about my publishers, Chrissy. They're not just e-publishers but do print books too. 4RV has just started e-books. They now have two available for the Kindle. Lea Schiza's Bubba and Giganto and my Just Breeze. They plan for more, but are taking it slowly.

Anything specific you'd like to know?

Bev

I understand, Bev. The only reason I know is that I stop by a DQ forum from time to time. Who has time to watch TV? Besides, there really isn't a lot worth watching these days.

Hi: Christopher Hoare checking in.

I'm the author of the four novel Iskander series published by Double Dragon Publishing -- http://www.double-dragon-ebooks.com/eAuthor.php?Name=Christopher%20Hoare as well as the March upcoming March release of my fantasy "Rast" from MuseItUp Publishing -- http://museituppublishing.com/musepub/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=83&Itemid=82

I retired from my oilpatch contract surveying operations a few years ago and now write full time -- except when I'm running the dogs, shoveling snow, fixin' and fussin', and doing my half of the chores around the house. We -- Wife Shirley, Coco, and Emmy -- live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta and can't wait for this winter to end. However, the guy who wrote "Springtime in the Rockies" had certainly never enjoyed the out of season snowfalls, the floods when it rains on the snowpack, and the mud -- but it'll be good to see the bluebirds come back and the flowers released from the frozen ground.

Hey Chris,

Glad to have you with us. I'm with you on the end of winter. We'll get flooding here this year for sure. Good thing we put the sump pump in. Maybe we can at least keep water out of the basement.

Can't wait for Rast!

I guess I forgot to introduce myself when I first signed into the site. Probably went ahead and signed in and then got distracted with work or some other such thing - heaven forbid that work take me away from my writing - lol.

Anyway, I'm the author of the Junior Geography Detective Squad, 50-state, mystery, trivia series, focusing on all fifty states, one book at a time. I was with 4RV and still am until my contract for the third book runs out in 2013, but am now self-publishing using createspace.com and am loving the freedom it affords me with my books. I'm able to get more books out in a shorter amount of time and the cost per book is a lot less than through the publisher but I don't have any hard feelings towards 4RV because if it weren't for the start that Vivian gave me I wouldn't be published at all, or might still be contemplating it. This is a better thing for me all around.

I have a few other "published" writing credits but nothing like Bev - all those magazine articles and stories for kids. Two of my stories were published on Armchair Interviews' website after the contest they were submitted for (both took second place); two of my other stories were published as "ebooks" through Echelon Press but they are no longer available, and one of my stories was published in our local writing group's anthology or publication since it's more about every type of writing and photography too. One of my no-longer-published stories, Butterfly Halves, is supposed to be picked up in a faery anthology and hopefully will be published this fall.

I'm trying to break into the school and homeschool market with my books so for the next few months (at least once a month, and sometimes twice or three times) through August I will be busy doing conferences and book festivals and other type of events. All my upcoming events so far are posted on my website - http://jgdsseries.weebly.com

I know a couple of you here and am looking forward to getting to know others in the group. E :)
